Founded in 1974, Priory Bowmen is
one of the smaller archery clubs in Essex with around 50 members. Nonetheless
we are remarkably successful: several of our members have shot for the County
Team and one for the England Junior Team. We also won the Essex Summer League
title 3 times in four years.
We are based near Clacton-on-Sea and are fortunate to have a private shooting
range to which we have access 7 days a week. Although every day is considered
to be a "Club Target Day", Sunday mornings are when most members meet
up. We shoot outdoors all year round and we also shoot indoors on Wednesday
evenings. We mainly shoot the Olympic or Recurve style of bow but there are
quite a few members who shoot longbows. We concentrate on target archery but we
have a small (and very enthusiastic) band of field archers.
We run beginners lessons once a year in the spring but we welcome applications
to join at any time.
